Markets Snapshot: August 2026
Here is where the assets I follow most closely stand as August 2026 begins. I publish this brief snapshot every month so the numbers are always current; for my full view on direction, levels and timing, read the full Market Outlook.

Where each asset stands
The month opens with gold at $4,044 an ounce, holding above the $4,000 level, roughly 11% below the $4,500 mark. Silver sits at $57.69, holding above the $50 level, roughly 4% below the $60 mark. The two metals remain the first gauge of how the market is pricing risk and inflation, and I watch which one leads the other.
In crypto, Bitcoin trades at $63,088, holding above the $50,000 level, roughly 19% below the $75,000 mark, and it stays the compass the rest of the market follows. Ethereum is at $1,868, about 7% below the $2,000 mark. The rest of what I track, XRP, Stellar, Chainlink and Solana, tends to move with higher beta and sharper swings around Bitcoin's direction.
Beyond the two majors, XRP trades at $1.06, holding above the $1.00 level, roughly 88% below the $2.00 mark; Stellar at $0.17; Chainlink at $8.12, about 23% below the $10 mark; and Solana at $72.98, about 37% below the $100 mark. These carry more risk and move faster than Bitcoin: in a strong tape they can lead the way up, and in a weak one they fall hardest and quickest. I size them for that reality rather than the best-case chart, and I let Bitcoin's direction set the tone for the whole basket.
The macro backdrop this month
The macro question I keep returning to is simple: is money getting cheaper or dearer? Falling real yields and an easier dollar lift gold and crypto together; the opposite drains them. None of this shows up in a single print, which is why I track the direction of the dollar and yields month over month, not day to day. The market can stay irrational longer than any headline lasts, but it rarely fights the direction of liquidity for long.
What I am watching this month
My focus this month is the relationship between the metals and the majors. If silver starts to outrun gold and altcoins outrun Bitcoin, that is late-cycle energy worth respecting and worth fearing. Leadership tells you where you are in the move: early leadership by the safest names is usually healthy, late leadership by the riskiest names is usually a warning.
How I read a snapshot
A single month's price tells you little on its own. What matters is the trend, the level relative to the last major high, and whether the macro backdrop, the dollar, real yields and central-bank policy, is turning. The snapshot above is the factual anchor; the full outlook carries the analysis, the levels, the timing and the reasons.
Remember that a month is a single frame in a long film. The temptation is to trade the frame; the discipline is to trade the film. I keep these snapshots precisely so the long arc stays visible, and so no single month, up or down, decides the whole story. The people who last in this game are rarely the fastest; they are the ones who refuse to confuse a scene with the ending.
